This leadership role oversees a small accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. The full-time Controller position is situated in the San Rafael, California area. How you will make an impact - Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required - Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management - Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings collections, and payroll - Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month - Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies - Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations G/L analysis - Collaborate with COO, executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation - Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques - Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field - 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years as a Controller preferred - Construction industry experience required - particularly with a large general contractor with government jobs and Union staff. - Understanding GAAP and firm accounting policies and procedure - Strong Microsoft Excel skills required - Develop and enforce high standards for quality deliverables - Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued, but not required. - Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity - Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement - Excellent communication and organizational skills - Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes - Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds - Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines - Always hold self and others accountable for results - Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills - Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred - Sales and use tax experience - Well-founded grasp of general ledger - Quality experience with journal entries - Practical knowledge of bank reconciliations - Expertise in multi-state taxes - Union payroll experience highly desired - Financial statement preparation experience desired - General familiarity with account reconciliation - Proven knowledge of union reports - Strong familiarity with property taxes For immediate consideration, please email your resume to Amanda Howell at [Click Here to Email Your Resume] or call me at 707-578-3355.Robert Half Finance & Accounting, the world's leader in specialized financial staffing, provides exciting full-time opportunities in the areas of accounting, bookkeeping, finance, audit, taxation and more.
